Chief Seattle of the Duwamish Tribe wrote the following letter to President Pierce after the US Government offered to buy the land where his people lived in 1854 (current day Washington State).

It appears that what ever we do to earth we end up doing to ourselves. The Cheif said "Man does not weave this web of life. He is merely a strand of it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself". This statement is true in every way. When we poison or pollute the air we are poisoning ourselves. People treat the world as if they run it and they are better then the ground the walk on. But in reality there are billions of other organisms on this planet not including humans. With out those animals and pants humans would nnot exist. Once the people realize we need to change and start treating the earth the way we should, we can start leading a better healthier lifestyle.

This quote basically means that man did not create the Earth or the organisms in it. Who is man, then, to decide what happens to the people in it? Who is man to decide what gets to live and what is destroyed? Whatever man does to the organisms and the life on Earth will just end up coming right back to haunt him. Everything in the "web of life" is interconnected like the levels of a food chain. When the grass of the land is destroyed, then the deer cannot get its food and, therefore, the lion also gets less food. Man eats the deer as well (and sometimes even the grass) which goes to show that when we harm one part of life, we harm other parts... including ourselves.

This a very powerful quotation definitely relates to the topics we have discussed this week. this week, we have been talking about food webs and chains. When we do anything negative to the food chain/web, it will ultimately come back on us. This is not good at all and i am going to begin reducing my negativity to the environment.

It also implies that when we destroy a piece of land, since we share it all it effects everything on this earth. Any pollution we produce, or ecosystem we destroy in nature has an adverse reaction on humans; which is why I don't understand why people continue to pollute the land and waste resources. The more forests we cut down, the more carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. The more co2 in the atmosphere, the warmer the planet gets. The warmer it gets, more plant and animal species die off. The more species that die off, the less food for us to eat. Eventually, we will die off because of our lack of respect of our land. Chief Seattle's quote was a warning to President Pierce, saying that if the land is not respected and used with care, then Humans can not survive.

We are the consumers in the food chain and if we mess it up, then merely we'll mess up ourselves. What we kill in the food chain we kill in ourselves. If we harm any part of the food chain we will eventually be harming ourselves. Kill the chicken population or any meat product then somewhere down the line we'll kill our population. The negative effect we do to the web, will cause a negative effect to our lives. It's not man's decision on how to weave the web or who should be in the web, therefore what man does to the web, he does to himself. Man cannot choose the consequence.

we learned in class that we are all a part of an ecosystem, a food chain, and a food web. when one part is changed or taken away, it ultimately alters these. for example, in the CARROT--->RABBIT---->FOX! food chain, if we take away the CARROT, then the RABBIT population would decrease and eventually die out, thus harming the FOX! population as well. :'( also, when we did the food web in class with the string, when ms. hancock took away the grass, alot of the other animals were greatly impacted. if we change one thing, we can harmfully alter the order ini which we are set and in the end, harm ourselves.

This quote means that what ever we do to the food web won't only hurt other organisms but will hurt us to. This tells us that saving our trees and other Earth resources is important. If we keep cutting down trees and using all of Earth's resource it will not only kill the organisms who need it to survive, it will sooner or later come around and kill us off. The video brings to light how we don't appreciate the earth. It explains how we will just try to buy land just to cut down the trees and build a building or a parking lot, when the people who really appreciate mother earth will have to give up their land. The quote basically says that humans did not create the organisms on the planet so we should not be able to decide whats gonna die and whats gonna live. And it also states that if we daamage the earth of the web of life we will hurt ourselves. So lets do right people!!!

humans are not the basics of life on earth. we are just another animal put here to grow. what every you do to hurt the earth your not only hurting the earth but think of how your hurting yourself. everything eventually comes back to you and what you do to it. yes all things are connected so once again let me say that what happens to this earth will sneak up and bite you in the butt on day. watch what you do to the other species on this earth because we are all connected and what you do to them will happen to you... i call it karma.

What the chief said makes alot of sense. When he said "All things share the same breath - the beast, the tree, the man... the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports. ", this ties into the concept of the food web. As a part of the natural web we of life we all use each other to survive. The energy we use, the air we breath, its all the same and from the same source. As we eat animals, which eat plants, we get energy which ultimately comes from the sun, this is a transfer of resources between . Another example of this is the fact that we all live on the same earth and human activities, like pollution and industrialization, also affect not just our living conditions but it also changes the living conditions of natures animals and plant life. This is arisen from human activity and says that hurting the things around us have the same or greater impact on us than we think, even though it may not affect us directly.

In this quotation his saying that we are all like a food web just like the ecosystem in an envorinment. The change of just one organism in a ecosystem can effect the whole entire ecosystem structures. Meaning that if Human change something in our envoriment of the worldwide ecosystem then, it will eventually effect us in a way. We may be able to control the web of life but we sertainly can effect it and we can make a discission wheather we effect positive or negatively. And our discission will determine the future of the human race.

I agree, we only get to live on this earth once and so we should do the very best we can not to harmfully alter it. most people dont realize that fact, they dont see what they got until they loose it. and i for one, do not want to loose it.

I never thought of it that way. All of the strands that make up the earth have their own duties and responsibilitie that make it possible for every other strand to live. All living organism are intertwined.

i agree with what chief seattle said. It is true that what we do to the earth we do to ourselves because we could not live without the earth. the earth gives us what we have. I also agree that we are no the ones who maked things the way they are. we need to accept the earth how it is and live our lives the way we were meant to. I think that global warming is a result of us abusing our Earth and it is changing how we need to live now. Our abuse to the Earth is also effecting the food chain which will eventually lead us to being doomed.

I agree that we are mistreating the Arthur because people litter all the time and use so much stuff that leads to us needing to tear down more natural resources. It is ultimately affecting us. We are the ones who are ruining our environment and making it unhealthy. We are also harming animals which is changing the food chain because these animals are dying off. This is going to get to us and cause us to die off too.
