Oceanographer
4-5 years of College
$50,000 - $80,000 a year depending on
As an Oceanographer you would study marine life, ocean circulation, plate tectonics, and the chemical and physical properties of the ocean.

Forensic Science
Certification programs take about two years to complete
Low- $25,100 yearly High - $65,500 yearly
A career in forensic science would be right for anyone interested in solving crimes by collecting crime scene evidence and using natural sciences to analyze the data they recover. Most forensic scientists specialize in certain types of evidence like DNA analysis, firearm research, or examining hair and body fluid substances

Forensic Science as always been an interesting topic to me I always love watch true TV and how forensic scientist help solve crime's with the smallest of evidence. I have always love science in school working with chemicals and etc. I really interested in these career but the salary is so low that not the projected salary I want for my long term career.
Ive always liked learning about Forensic Science and i also would ahve thought that they would be making a lot more money then what was stated since they are dealing with humans and all.! It shocked me at how low their pay is!

I definitely would not want to be at sea most of the time because I would become seasick...not to mention the fact that there are pirates in some locations of the world. Anyway, it would be kinda cool to study an orca whale!

I would love that job after 30 years it would be nice if stores like walmart paid like that. I would agree i would go into that for the enormous salary too. Exclamation

I really like plants and I would also like to be a botanist. I like flowers and gardens and just nature really. But I should have picked this career too!

5th Hour - Careers in Biology - Page 2 Empty Two good careers

Post  shopaholic94 Sat Jan 08, 2011 3:23 am

Surgeons:
the salary for a surgeon depends on the specific specialty of surgery.
Medical speciality Annual salary in US
Neurosurgery $550,000
Orthopedic Surgery $450,000
Plastic Surgery $350,000
Otolaryngology $320,000
General Surgery $300,000
Podiatric surgery $200,000

I knew surgeons made a lot of money, but i never thought of that much or even more a lot of times. I think that it is a good job if you like sciences and solving peoples's health problems, and at the same time you make money and have a lot of privileges.
The bad thing is that classes in colleges are likely more expensive, and you have to specialize and get a lot of degrees to actually get to be a good surgeon, so you have to invest in your future ahead of time without knowing what is going to happen.

Biotechnology combines technology with the biological sciences to improve the quality of life for people. Scientists working in biotechnology typically are biologists, biochemists, biophysicists, geneticists and microbiologists. They apply their expertise to medicine, food science, agriculture, and product development in industry.
Starting Salary
1. The PayScale salary survey website shows median starting salary for biotechnology research scientists at $63,000 in 2009, with an increase to $73,000 with 5 years experience.
Median Salary
2. Biotechnology research scientists have a median annual salary of $76,000 to $77,000 in 2009, according to PayScale, but those working in the pharmaceutical industry are making between $79,000 to $81,000 annually on average.
Average Salary
3. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows biochemists and biophysicists earning an average of about $42.50 per hour in 2008, or about $88,000 per year. Microbiologists in 2008 were earning an average of about $33.70 per hour, or $70,000 annually.

I think it is a good career and you actually get well paid for it. You also almost dont have to worry about unemployement because now a days these engenieers a very needed in a lot of countries.

My second career choice is entomology, which is the study of insects. To be a certified entomologist, you need at least 2-4 years of college. The average salary of an entomologist is 51,000 dollars a year. The motivation of most people going into entomology is for the love of insects or the study of insects, while the salary would drive some away.

I know someone who was studying botany. That sounds like it would be a very interesting career, and they have a very nice salary. . . well. . . after 30 years.

You wrote so much!!! lol but anyway I had no clue surgeons made that much money. You can get $450,000 for working on somebody's feet?!! Amazing. I might give medical school a try now.

soccergal93 wrote:1. Career - Oceanography
2. Education - A minimum of four years of college
3. Salary - Around $60,000 a year
4. Reason - Being an Oceanographer means you learn to study marine life. I've never been to an ocean, but everything about oceans and ocean life interests me. I would enjoy studying marine organisms and the way pollutants effect it, which falls under the field of a chemical oceanographer. Understanding how the ocean currents move around the globe and how the ocean affects climate sounds interesting to me.

1. Career - Ecology
2. Education - At least a bachelor's degree and be at least proficient in subjects like math, physics, computer science, biology and chemistry
3. Salary - Entry level salary=$29,920 a year. Average salary=$47,600 a year. And Maximum salary=$78,200 a year.
4. Reason - This career was interesting to me because I have an interest for outdoors and wildlife, I am good with communication skills and teamwork, and I also love writing, critical thinking and problem solving. To be an ecologist you have to study and observe animals and work to protect them. You collect and analyze data and have to be interested in nature and the outdoors.

I have suggestion for you , i guess Ms.White teaches Oceanography. Maybe you should take the class and see yourself if you really want to be in it or not. Very Happy
